I have this habit, where I associate my favorite songs with a person, a place, an image of my future…
For the longest time, when “Over the Valley” came on, I always thought this song was for us. For the long future ahead of us. For the days we were young, until the day we grow old, together.
The lyric is so simple yet so mesmerizingly beautiful. What else do we need in life besides a home we built together, our family and above it all – our Love.
Over the valley
This house among the trees
Where we’ve been hiding
Making our memories
And I’m deciding
You are my one and only love
And we’ll be over the valley
As the moon shines above
The autumn breezes carry all the bluebirds
Down to where the sun still shines
If we could hold this day
In our hearts some way
We would never roam
Ever far from home
Over the valley
Just above the fray
The sun is setting
And when we’re old and grey
I’ll still be betting
You are my one and only love
And over the valley
The moon shines above
The autumn breezes carry all the bluebirds
Down to where the sun still shines
If we could hold this day
In our hearts some way
We would never roam
Ever far from home
Over the valley
Just above the fray
The sun is setting
And when we’re old and grey
I’ll still be betting
You are my one and only love
And we’ll live over the valley
You’ll always be with me
As the moon shines above
Today, the first time I listened to this Live, all those images came flooding back in. The image of our family, of us, of all the dreams I had about a future that never came.
I’m glad I only had the chance to listen to this live today. Not a month earlier. Not two months earlier.
Because, today I have been “over the valley”, I have been over us and over the what-could-have-been-if…
Today, I truly believe there is someone else just as precious as you once were, waiting for me just over the valley.
